I am a 1999 graduate of Lipscomb University with majors in Biology and German and earned my MS from University of Maryland at College Park in 2001 in the department of Natural Resource Sciences with an emphasis on Plant Molecular Biology. My thesis research focused on isolating and characterizing genes involved in dormancy response in trees. I have taught as an adjunct instructor for Lipscomb's Biology department for 3 years, and though teaching is only a part-time occupation for me, I truly have a passion for science and for teaching. Watching the "wheels turn" as young minds start to really understand the complexities of the biology of life and view with awe God's stunning creation is an amazing thing to be a part of.
As for the rest of my life, for the past 9 years my husband Jeremy and I have owned a coffeehouse and cafe, House Blend, in the heart of downtown Dickson, where we live. In a unique combination of biology and business, we have developed a interest in local sustainable agriculture. For the past three summers we have partnered with local organic farms and growers to cater monthly "Farmers' Market Suppers" to help educate our community on the beauty, health, and taste of eating local, seasonal, and organic!
