Sophia A. Nelson
Author of Black Woman Redefined: Dispelling Myths and Discovering Fulfillment in the Age of Michelle Obama
Sophia A. Nelson, Esq., is “redefining” the rules for 21st-century living and success. The award-winning author, journalist, political commentator and former House of Representatives committee counsel is working to change the game for a new generation of Americans in academia, the workplace, interpersonal relationships, and overall personal development.
Prior to becoming a freelance journalist and former White House correspondent and political columnist for JET magazine, Nelson served in several senior and executive positions within the government and corporate sector. Nelson is also founder and current chairman of the board of iask, Inc., an organization dedicated to the relational, emotional, spiritual, career and health of professional black women.
Nelson’s new book examines the inner lives and unique challenges of accomplished black women in this modern age of the nation’s first African-American First Lady, Michelle Obama.
Cordia Harrington
CEO, Tennessee Bun Company
Cordia Harrington is owner and founder of Tennessee Bun Company, which includes three plants and five product lines, serving customers in the United States, Caribbean and South America. In addition, her businesses include Bakery Express and Cold Storage of Nashville.
Prior to her career in baking, Harrington was a McDonald’s owner/operator in central Illinois, where she purchased one restaurant and built two other award-winning McDonald’s. Harrington has been involved in several other businesses, including real estate and construction ventures.
Harrington is also very involved in the community and has been recognized in dozens of local and national media outlets for her commitment to excellence and her business savvy.
Other invited local leaders will provide insights and learning on faith-based leadership challenges.
Other well-known leaders within the community will dialogue with participants as they host discussions on managing self while leading others, facilitating wellness in the workplace and in the home, developing faith-informed leadership strategies for women, and incorporating authentic living into their decision-making processes.
