Alumni Award Criteria

Alumnus of the Year Award

The Alumnus of the Year Award is presented on an annual basis and is the highest form of recognition given by Lipscomb University and The National Alumni Association.  The recipient can be defined as: "One singularly successful individual who, through exemplary accomplishments and recognition, and through his/her strong faith and servant-like heart, epitomizes the potential of a Lipscomb education and thereby brings credit and honor to the university."

CRITERIA:

  • Nominees must have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate course of study at Lipscomb University.
  • Nominees must have established an exceptional record in a particular career discipline.
  • Nominees must have made outstanding contributions in their field of expertise.
  • To be eligible for nomination, alumni do not have to be working in the particular discipline from which they graduated.
  • Nominees must exhibit high moral character and good citizenship and be an individual of faith.
  • Nominees must have achieved international, national, state or regional recognition for outstanding definable career accomplishments.
  • Nominees must have a record of distinguished service.
  • Nominees must have demonstrated excellent service to the university in at least two or more of the following:
  1. Student Recruitment
  2. Financial Support
  3. Leadership in the National Alumni Association
  4. Volunteer support of university programs
  5. Internships, mentoring and /or job placement
  6. Served as a member of the Board of Trustees or as visiting member of other Lipscomb committees

Young Alumnus of the Year Award

The Young Alumnus of the Year Award is designed to recognize established and future leaders among Lipscomb's young alumni.  Standards for recognition include one or more of the following: demonstrated leadership capability, substantial indication of a commitment to service of others, demonstration of potential for leadership/distinction in the long term, and a substantial commitment to Lipscomb University and its mission.

CRITERIA:

  • The recipient must be a graduate or former student of Lipscomb University.
  • No Young Alumnus of the Year Award will be conferred in absentia.
  • No person shall be recommended for Young Alumnus of the Year while a candidate for public office.
  • The recipient must not have reached 40 years of age at the time of selection.

Distinguished Alumni Awards

Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented on an annual basis. The award recognizes distinctive personal and professional achievement that has merited the honor and praise of peers and colleagues.

CRITERIA:

  • The recipient must be a graduate of Lipscomb University. In special circumstances, a non-graduate alum will be considered.
  • No person shall be recommended for a Distinguished Alumni Award while a candidate for public office.
  • Nominees must have established an exceptional record in a particular career discipline.
  • Nominees must have made outstanding contributions in their field of expertise.
  • Nominees must exhibit high moral character and good citizenship and be an individual of faith.

All nominations will be vetted by the Office of Alumni & Parent Relations who will compile a list of five names from each college of those individuals they feel best fit the criteria set forth.


Selection Process

The National Alumni Council, by means of the compiled list, will make recommendations to the president and senior leadership team regarding selection of the recipient. The president and senior leadership team will have the final decision.
