MATH LAB:math
Math tutoring is provided for students who find themselves challenged and in need of help in their math class.

Peer tutors staff the Math Lab, which is overseen by our Math Department. The lab sessions are held in the Academic Success Center, Beaman 141.  Appointments are not necessary; students should feel free to drop in anytime the lab is open.  Keep in mind that if the instruction style of one peer tutor doesn't work for you, you shouldn't give up.  Stop by again and work with another peer tutor.

If you decide that you would benefit from one-on-one assistance in other subject areas, EduWizards is an option that you may want to consider.  You can go HERE to visit their site and check their pricing.  Although EduWizards is not affiliated with Lipscomb, they have agreed to discounted rates for our students.

ACADEMIC WORKSHOPS:
The Office of Academic Advising and Support coordinates a series of workshops aimed at addressing areas that seem to give college students difficulty.  Workshops are offered throughout the semester and students will be notified via campus email of the dates and topics.  Videos are also available that cover material presented in the workshops.  You can access them HERE and log on to the site using your network login information.  Once inside, check the left-hand menu for a folder labeled "Student Sucess Workshops" and find a topic that meets your needs.

Here is the schedule of upcoming workshops:

"Bisons Succeed" Workshops

Fall 2012

Here’s the schedule of remaining workshops offered this semester by the Academic Success Center.  You’ll be given the opportunity to reserve a seat for each workshop (seating is limited) about a week before it’s scheduled.  Workshops will typically be offered twice during the week they are scheduled (exceptions are noted).  Specific scheduling information will be sent in an informational email approximately one week before the date of the workshop.

                              “A Notable Experience”

Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Wednesday, Sept. 5

It’s your class notes that provide you with a record of what happens during the class hour, and it’s those notes that are your primary tool for preparing for tests.  But many students find that their notes are anything but helpful—poorly organized, almost indecipherable—and at times can be an impediment to success.  This workshop will provide suggestions for improving this important skill.   This workshop will be led by Rob Mossack, Director of Academic Advising.

                          “Testing One, Two, Three, Four

Wednesday, Sept. 12 and Thursday, Sept. 13

The bane of college students’ existence:  the test.  Not many words strike as much fear into the heart of a student than that little four letter word that starts with “t.”  This workshop will offer insight into some ways to take the fear out of testing, including a sure-fire approach to test preparation that will allow you to be ready on the big day. This workshop will be led by Allison West, who works in our Career Development Center.

                          “Learn it YOUR Way"

Tuesday, Sept. 18 and Wednesday, Sept. 19

Are you a visual, aural, or kinesthetic learner?  Knowing the difference could save you hours of study time!  Discover ways to use your strengths and personal

learning style to maximize both your study times AND  classroom experiences.  Teresa Williams, Director of Student Advocacy, will facilitate the workshop.

                               “Making it Count"

Tuesday, Sept. 25 and Thursday, Sept. 2

(Special time:  7:00 pm)

There are two critical segments of time for a college student:  the hour spent in class, and the hours spent studying. Too many students waste way too much of both time periods, creating stress they don’t need.  This workshop will review principles for maximizing BOTH class time and study time, including ideas for understanding and getting along with  instructors.  Facilitator TBA.

                                  “It’s a MAJOR Decision”

Still trying to decide what path you want to take?  This workshop Is intended to help you discover some basic things to consider as You choose your career/vocation, and the major that will help you get there.  Kamaria Mack from our Career Development Center will lead this workshop.
