David Walton ('05) Lives His Dream as a Professional Vocalist

As a senior in high school, David Walton joined the DLHS Concert Chorus for the first time. Apparently, the experience made an impact on him and the rest (as they say) is history.

After high school, David received a bachelors degree in music at Harding University and then a Master's in Vocal Performance from the University of Mississippi where he served as a graduate teaching assistant. Most recently  he has been named to the vocal group Cantus.

Based in the Twin Cities, Cantus is recognized as one of America's finest professional male vocal ensembles. The artist-led group is known for adventurous programming spanning many periods and genres — chant to spirituals, art song to folk song, Bach to the Beatles. The Washington Post described their sound as having both "exalting finesse" and "expressive power," and referred to their music-making as "spontaneous grace." A brand-new album, Christmas with Cantus, was just released.

Recently performing on  A Prarie Home Companion, the photo below shows Walton singing with Garrison Keillor.
