The Lipscomb Academy choruses sang backup vocals for headline artists Amy Grant and Nicole C. Mullen at Lipscomb University’s ninth annual Lighting of the Green on December 3.
The choruses, ranging from elementary school choruses to the award-winning high school concert chorus, rehearsed for weeks prior to the celebration that kicks off the holiday season on the Lipscomb University campus.
Grant hosted the annual outdoor holiday concert, one of the earliest traditional seasonal events in Nashville. This year’s performance also featured Lennon & Maisy from the hit ABC show “Nashville,” contemporary Christian artist David Phelps, Hymns for Hunger & Friends, featuring contemporary Christian artists Cindy Morgan and Andrew Greer; country and pop singer Brenda Lee, whose “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has been a holiday standard for more than 50 years; singer-songwriter Ben Rector and the Lipscomb University student choruses.
The fourth and fifth grade choruses kicked off the concert singing “Let it Snow” in front of an estimated crowd of 5,000. After Grant welcomed the audience to the university’s Allen Arena Mall, the combined high school and university choruses sang backup for Grant’s hit song “Tender Tennessee Christmas.”
Near the end of the show the combined high school and university chorus sang “Redeemer” with Mullen.
“Lighting of the Green is a great collaborative experience with the university choir, and a wonderful opportunity for our student performers to see first hand the level of professionalism that Amy and her friends bring to us. It is particularly gratifying to see how humble and easy to work with these amazing artists are and for our students to see that,” said Robert King, Lipscomb Academy Director of Fine Arts.
