Dawson Armstrong Signs with Lipscomb University

Dawson Armstrong, the number one ranked junior golfer in Tennessee, signed a golf scholarship with Lipscomb University, a Division I university, on November 20.

Less than two percent of high school athletes go on to compete at the collegiate level, even fewer go on to play in a NCAA Division I program.

Armstrong has an outstanding resume as a junior golfer. In 2013, he helped the Lipscomb Academy boys golf team earn fourth place in the TSSAA Division 1 A-AA state golf tournament.  He tied for first place as an individual in the same tournament, but lost in a playoff and earned state runner-up.  He has twice been named First Team All State.

In the 2013 TSSAA Region 5 A-AA tournament, Armstrong was the first place medalist and helped the team win the tournament. He also won his third straight District 10 A-AA tournament as an individual in 2013.

In addition to his accomplishments on the academy’s golf team, Armstrong has won multiple individual tournaments including an All American Junior Golf Tournament, a United States Junior Golf Tour Tournament and The Brandt Snedeker/Bridgestone Golf Music City Junior Championship. He is also a Rolex Junior All American and is ranked in the top 25 junior golfers in the world.

“Dawson's relentless desire to improve has propelled him to become one of the best young golfers in the nation.  There is no doubt that he deserves all of the accolades that he has received,” said Mike Mays, Lipscomb Academy’s head golf coach.

Armstrong will join his older brother Dowling, a 2013 Lipscomb Academy graduate, on Lipscomb University’s golf team. The pair also has a younger brother and sister, Davis and Maryalice, who are both on the academy’s golf team.  Their father, Dale Armstrong, was a standout golfer for Lipscomb University from 1982-1986 and went on to play professionally for 10 years.
