Track State Champs 2013




The Lipscomb Academy Girls Track Team won the 2013 DI A-AA State Championship with a total of 65 points, 12 points more than the nearest competitor.


While Lipscomb Academy has had several individual state champions in girls track, this win is the first team state championship for girls track in the school’s




Lead by head coach Todd Cunningham, team members won four individual events. For the second year in a row, Barbara Ball won the 3200 meter run, 1600 meter run and the 800 meter run.  Sarah Browning won the pole vault with a height of 3.2 meters.


"This is a very special group of young ladies.  They represented Lipscomb Academy in a great way. They overcame several obstacles this year but stayed focused on their goal - to win a state championship.  They worked extremely hard and deserve to be called champions," said Cunningham.


To win a state championship in track, many members and relay teams must compete well for a high overall team score.  Along with the individual state champions, the entire team competed extremely well.


The 4x100 meter relay team, made up of team members Anne Ward Elliott, Abbey McMurray, Bria Harris, and Kyra Tyler, placed third in the state meet.


The 4x200 meter relay team, comprised of team members Anne Ward Elliott, Abbey McMurray, Bria Harris, and Kyra Tyler placed fifth in the meet.


Members of the 4x400 meter relay team, Abby Taylor, Emily Mylhousen, Allison Brewer and Abbey McMurray earned fourth place in the meet.


The 4x800 meter relay team earned third place. Members of the team included Abby Taylor, Emily Mylhousen, Allison Brewer and Katie Coker.


Kyra Tyler broke Lipscomb Academy’s school record in the long jump with a distance of 5.39 meters and earned fifth place in the competition.


“The girls track team had a wonderful season capped off by four individual state championships and the team state championship. Coach Cunningham and his staff did a terrific job of leading this squad and the young ladies represented Lipscomb Academy in the finest manner,” said Mike Roller, Lipscomb Academy Director of Athletics.
