Kenya
Summer 2013
|
This second year mission team will walk alongside the ministry of Made in the Streets, based in Nairobi, Kenya. Last year's team was comprised of members of the Alpha Phi Chi men's service club, but this year's team is open to all. The team is hoping to further grow a partnership started in November 2011, when Alpha Phi Chi raised several thousand dollars for the ministry through Anteater's Ball, its annual variety show. Club members decided that raising money to support their ministry was just the beginning; team members now have the abilitiy to follow up with actual service. The work of Made in the Streets begins by seeking out and finding kids just as they are, and offering them a new life free from glue, drugs, stealing and hunger. Their team is trained to take first aid, friendship, Bible study, food, sports, counseling, and the opportunity to go to a skills training school - all the things needed by children who are sleeping on the streets. The team will provide assistance to the day-to-day efforts of those who have devoted their lives to this work, doing whatever they can to help out while also utilizing the skill sets and passions of team members. |
