8th Grade at DLMS

Welcome to our 8th grade web page.  The goal of the eighth grade faculty is to fulfill the schools’ mission statement:  To serve students so that they may master knowledge and skills appropriate to 8th graders, and by our words and example, to encourage them to become more Christ-like in attitude and behavior.

Eighth grade has five academic areas, covering Math (Algebra and Pre-Algebra), English, Science, U.S. History, and Bible.  Enrichment activities are offered in these classes as well.  For example, in Science and History each student will present a project/presentation to his or her fellow classmates.  In Bible, each student will have the opportunity to be in a skit for chapel.

Students will also be provided the chance to participate in various service projects throughout the school year.  Each year the projects are different.  In the past we have raked leaves, helped build a playground at the Nashville Zoo, visited nursing homes, and given class parties at an elementary school.

The highlight of the middle school experience culminates in the eighth grade.  At the end of the year, the grade goes on a class trip.  The trip varies from year to year, but in the past some sites we have visited have included New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Monticello, Mount Vernon, and Colonial Williamsburg.  Most students discover the trip the same way they do the school year, which is very enjoyable and rewarding.
