Welcome to our 6th grade web page. Our goal as sixth grade teachers at David Lipscomb Middle School is to serve students so that they may master knowledge and skills appropriate to 6th graders, and by our words and example, to encourage them to become more Christ-like in attitude and behavior.
In addition to daily academic efforts, we also take field trips during the 6th grade year to help educate our students in a wide variety of ways. In September we visit the Parthenon in conjunction with our study of ancient Greece. In early November the entire 6th grade takes advantage of the outdoor educational opportunities at Camp Cosby just outside of Birmingham, Alabama. We take other field trips during the year depending on our schedule. For example, we have attended the Renaissance Center in Dickson, TN, theAdventure Science Center here in Nashville, and an exhibit at the Frist Center downtown.
Sixth graders are involved in a variety of service projects. In the past, we have sold t-shirts to benefit the rain forest, made lunches for the homeless, visited the elderly, designed and sent cards of encouragement, and host the homeless at Room in the Inn. This year, we are supporting two children in Africa as a result of our field trip "Step Into Africa" where we visited an exhibit showing the needs of children in Africa and the devestating results of aids in that area.
We also have an annual Medieval Night in which each sixth grader takes part. Families and friends are invited as we have an authentic Medieval Feast along with crafts and games relating to the time period. The students' Medieval projects are displayed for all to see. The night concludes with the 6th grade play. This year's production was "A Knight to Remember," a musical in which several of the students performed. The night always turns out to be a real success and we look forward to this event each year.
It is our goal that each sixth grader will grow as Jesus grew , "in wisdom, and stature, and favor with God and man." Luke 2:42
